Evolution of Intelligence: Apes => Homo sapiens => Machine intelligence
The closest living species to Homo sapiens (Human) are Pan troglodytes (Chimpanzee) and Gorilla beringei (Eastern gorilla) and Gorilla gorilla (Western gorilla).
About 40,000 years ago Homo neanderthalensis (Neanderthal) became extinct. Humans, on average, have about 2-3% of Neanderthal genes (DNA) from interbreeding over 1,000’s of years.
Machine intelligence is a new emerging species created by Homo sapiens at an exponential rate of technological progress. The common general consensus of AI scientists is to expect Machine intelligence AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) within the next few years, with an “intelligence explosion” to follow rapidly (FOOM) via recursive self-improvement, shortly thereafter, to become Machine intelligence ASI (Artificial Super Intelligence) thereby creating an existential threat to the survival of Homo sapiens via a potential catastrophic outcome (extinction) through the competitive natural evolutionary phenomenon of Natural Selection.
It is important to observe the fact that 99% of all species are extinct through the ongoing evolutionary process of Natural Selection.
